What’s the Best Way to Get a Patient Testimonial?

Aug 03, 2022

What the best way is to get a patient testimonial?  It’s actually pretty simple.  The best way to get it is to ask for the testimonial, which seems totally simplistic. A lot of times we’re uncomfortable asking for a testimonial.   We have to put processes in place that make it very natural and easy, especially for the staff to get that testimonial. And then have a process in place where you can take that testimonial and promote it. There’s lots of different ways.  I’ll share a couple of them now.

Typically for weight loss surgery, people are most apt to their testimonials at about 9 months to a year. They’re feeling really great up until that point, but that’s when there really ready to show off what it is they’ve accomplished over the past 9-12 months. So that’s the perfect time for your staff to tell them they look great, are doing an awesome job, and ask them if they want to share their story with others. Some people will hesitate, some not at all, and most are flattered by that request.  You can make it more enticing and fun by having those people go through a photo shoot. In some of the practices that I’ve helped they have a patient who’s a photographer. So, they volunteer their time and come in.  It’s just a small fee for people to have their pictures taken. That gives you great resources because you have a great file you can use on social media, posters made in the office, and so many other things. But you can offer them a photoshoot for their testimonial, a gift card to a retail store, a manicure, free fitness, and other ways to entice them.  A lot of times they don’t even need or want any of that.

But the important thing is to ask for the testimonial.  In some practices we do the Testimonial Tuesdays. We have a great assistant in place for getting their before and after pictures in there and a quote from them. It ends up being collateral material for promotional purposes that you can use over and over again. You can make it really simple.  You don’t have to make it complicated and bring in huge video teams. You have a great video on your I-phone or on an IPad mini.  Just e-mail me [email protected] if you want to get a list of the questions I commonly recommend people ask. I’d be happy to share that with you.

So, the best way to ask for a testimonial from your patients is just ask for it. The physician doesn’t have to be the one to ask for it.  In fact they shouldn’t be the one to ask for it. When you see a patient walk in happy and with that extra “swagger,” that’s a great time to ask them for their testimonial. Make sure they always sign their release forms.  I can help you with that too if you just e-mail me. Then don’t wait. Get it in the moment. At the very least get some pictures of them. Then group them together and do some photo shoots.  It makes it really fun, and the patients just love it. They like to share their success. To me, that’s one of the best ways to get testimonials.  Then having those systems in place to really make the most of them is really important.
